Scott Keeney Day on Joe Brainard's Pyjamas

I hereby proclaim today Scott Keeney day on JBP. I serendipitously found Scott's online collection, Sappho Does Hay(na)ku and fell into a Greek swoon. Wait, that was too gay. Anyway, he wrote these in a form he told me was invented by interesting poet Eileen Tabios. I'll have to research this thing. I keep hearing it as "hiney cue" though, which is vaguely disturbing in a snookerish sort of way. I like these interpretations, translations, and variations, because they really capture the brassy candor which still draws readers to the world's most famous lesbian (next to Ellen). The Greek Anthology is one of my favorite poetry books of all time and finding these poems was like finding another set of poems I previously missed in there...hiding behind some Greek shrubs or something. Way to go, Scott. You can find the whole book online at http://sapphodoes.blogspot.com/ Here are a dozen sugary sexistentialist donuts to whet your appetite...as with Sappho you can start by licking the holes...

BEAUTIFUL WOMEN . . .

dancing
for cretins—
I wanna yack!

TWO DOVES

Spirits
cold. Wings
flap. Like stone.

LAMENT

Every
time I
sleep with you

I
dream I
am a virgin.

EMPTINESS

Ariyana
please stop
picking your nose.

MORNING WOOD

Eros
came down
from the mountain

in purple cape
and nothing
else,

penis
jutting out,
a crimson stake.

WHAT TO DO?

Something about her
makes me
tits.

CHOOSING

Couldn't
care less
about the honey,

let alone the
busy little
honeybee . . .

but
you don't
believe me, huh?

RE: THE GODS

They
didn't so
much as blink

let
alone shed
a single tear

while
we declared
our fucking love

they
were busy
bickering over alms.

GRIEF COUNSELOR

I know death
sucks, my
child.

Let me comfort
you like
prayer.

Undress and move
your smooth
legs

here. Relax over
my sympathetic
lips,

my gently pulsing
tongue and
fingertips.

THE WORLD DOES NOT END

1.

Ages
from now
people will speak

about our love—
what it
meant—

although
they mightn't
recall our names.

2.

They should know:
what we
have

has
nothing to
do with your

golden delicious tits
and twinkling
star.

YOUTH OF TODAY

Young
again, I'd
do you all.

DESIRE AND SUN

Great
shining breast
of the sun.

Eros,
please, don't
ever untie me.
