Here is a Much Better Poem than the Auden Poem That Just Gave Me Conniptions...

Check this one out from the same anthology.

I have not a bad word to say, nor cavil to raise, to a perfect poem like this.

This is by that genius ANONYMOUS, and was written in the 17th century.

Fragment of a Song on the Beautiful
   Wife of Dr. John Overall,
   Dean of St. Paul's

The Dean of Paul's did search for his wife
And where d'ee think he found her?
Even upon Sir John Selby's bed,
   As flat as any flounder.

I admire a poem as lean as a bone.

And as useful a cudgel as one at once.
