Louis Zukofsky in Basque

You can find the text of the Valentine I discussed and linked to below, here:

Zukofsky in Basque

It's fun to read the translation of his poems into Basque. Some read quite beautifully even if you don't understand the language. Basque is a killer, isn't it?

But gorgeous translations aurally!

The English versions of the poems, including the skinny poem discussed below, are inset to the lower right of the Basque versions.

I really love the poem beginning "The more that / who? the world / seeks me" (that is also one of his Valentines I believe) and the closing poem there are just out of this world. I particularly love how that last one reads in Basque!

"Come, shadow, come, and take this shadow up."

It doesn't really get much better than that in earthly language.

Enjoy!
