Go Daniel Pollack Go!

Here is a movie you might have missed that's worth seeing.

The Competition (1980) is a delightful little study of competitiveness in the world of the classical pianist.

Amy Irving, the former Mrs. Spielberg (and mother of Max) does a great job in this, as does Richard Dreyfuss. And Lee Remick is pretty great too.

One of the great bonuses of watching this movie is getting to hear so many stellar pieces of classical music actually performed by first rate musicians. Amy does a great job of "faking it" but it's really Daniel Pollack playing the Prokofiev.

The Prokofiev is my favorite piece in this movie and this is the scene (spoiler alert!) where she basically drives the stake into the heart of her lover (and competition) played by Richard Dreyfuss, with her flawless performance of a fucking impossible piece by Mr. P.

That's a totally bipolar piano concerto.

And I totally dig it for many years now.
