I Thought of That Inada Poem...

It's funny.

Thinking about the "incident" just now I thought of a poem by Lawson Fusao Inada I always liked in the anthology The Open Boat.

An Asian man takes up the voice of Charles Mingus in the poem "The Great Bassist."

And I guess gay people might just as well borrow the ending of the poem and speak it now...pay it forward...the rage...

I'm not typing up the whole poem...the ending goes like this...

But I need your love.
We need
each other.

So when I come down your street
with my Great Bass--

toss us your love--

we'll play you
love petals.

Love us back.

If you don't we will kill you.

All of you.

We will.

I always thought that poem was funny and so true.

It's what's at stake in an integrated society where tolerance (what a bullshit concept) must be...if you lack the mental wherewithal to arrive at respect. Losers.
