I've been getting great pleasure from several Edward Gorey books, the awesome Elaine Equi Selected I've been blogging about, and Etgar Keret's Missing Kissinger.
I find myself wanting to live in my bathtub since great books and bathtubs complement each other so well.
In the collection of Gorey interviews Ascending Peculiarity (which has some great photos of the young Gorey!) the author/artist reveals his favorite quote...
(Interviewer Lisa Solod in 1980): "You're also fond of another quote from Patrick White that begins "Many too many alternatives, but no choices..."
Gorey: "Right. It's my favorite sentence."
Patrick White is an interesting figure.
And there is the poignant quote of his own in the back of the book: "I have given up considering happiness as relevant."--to Alexander Theroux.
Gorey was rather obsessed with Louis Feuillade and saw him as a fount of personal inspiration.
Let me see what I can find on YouTube.
