Robbie Dixon, You Have a Great Ass

I'm sorry you fell on it in front of the entire world. I figured I'd try to say something nice to cheer you up.

See, Bode Miller?

Now don't you feel better?

Something worse than bronze could have happened to you.

Train your entire life for a moment and have something like that happen!!

It must be what the OTHER spermatozoa feel like--the ones who didn't make it to the egg.

We have Olympians in our family, but it's through marriage and the last one was back in the twenties (Paris in 24, I believe). One uncle married a beautiful gal from the Hungarian aristocracy.

They had lots of time for leisure activities. A family of fencers and master chess players.

The remaining members that made it to America all live in California.

One of them used to manage Spielberg's money. And yet he buried his own money in a hole in the ground in the backyard (well some of it anyway).

That might sound peasantish, but if you'd lived through a World War, you'd understand.

Funny that my Hungarian aunt was strafed by one American soldier and married by another.

She was gorgeous.

She's gone.

I remember her telling me about "the Jews" bringing their valuables to her Father and entrusting him with them (he apparently was a good man).

I remember her telling me very few Jews came back to retrieve those valuables.

Life is a killer.

You are missed, Irene.

I used to like to hear her reminisce about her jeunesse dore. She could recite Heine poems from memory and was fluent and read literature in four languages.

She'd come over for tea with my Mom and stay til it grew dark.

I think that's where I got the talking bug from. It jumped from her to me and bit me.

When she came to America she decided celebrities were much more interesting than literature so we were fast friends bonding over tabloidia.

See what you do to Europe, America?

Oh, an Olympian also lived right up the street from us when I lived at my Mom's house.

She swam against Summer Brenner but I can't even remember her name now. First name was Jenn.

Sweet girl. She babysat my niece on many occasions.
